About Secret Swan

Here is the story behind Secret Swan and a little about me, Abi!

“Use your imagination to visualise what may be, not what it is. Then set your goals, take action and make what you imagined a reality”

How Secret Swan began

Having played various musical instruments from a young age, I have always been drawn to the beauty of an instrument as much as the sound that it can produce. The only “art” training I have is an A level in art textiles, as I was initially drawn to a much more scientific career path. After studying for a degree in Genetics at The University of Liverpool, I went on to work for a pharmaceutical company, taking on the marketing for their osteoarthritis products. Unfortunately, just over a year into what seemed like a promising career, I was in a serious motorcycle accident which left me battered and broken and going on to suffer with long term chronic pain. This meant I was unable to return to work in the same capacity and had to find a new path. I returned to my love of art, incorporating woodworking which I had enjoyed with my dad from a young age.

What started out as carving Celtic knots into old tree logs soon turned into small commissions for friends. For every piece that I do I like to try something new and challenge myself, experimenting with new techniques to come up with a unique look and feel to any piece that I create. The first guitar I made was another challenge I set for myself, and I immediately fell in love with the process and the possibilities. The rest, as they say, is history.
